Facts about Prevent Blindness America - Arizona

  • Through our Sight for Students Program – 888 children have received an eye examination and glasses at no cost so far this year.
  • $150 provides an eye examination and glasses for one child!
  • 50% of blindness is preventable.
  • Only 14% of school age children have their vision checked before starting school.
  • With 1 staff member and 4 volunteers, Prevent Blindness America – Arizona Division can screen up to 350 children in one day.
  • $10 provides a vision screening to one child!
  • Prevent Blindness America – Arizona Division received funding from the CDC to start an adult vision-screening program to assist people with Diabetes.
  • $100 provides training and supplies for one school nurse!
  • 1 in 4 school-aged children have an eye problem that, if left undetected, may lead to permanent vision loss.
  • $75 provides 100 people with resources and information at a community health fair!
