This thank you note from a child who received glasses shows how your support can help PBI help school children throughout Indiana. Your support means more children like Eric will be able to get glasses and see and achieve in school! To see more on the role of vision in our life, here is a short video.

I'm so glad that I have my new glasses now. I can see better and I thank the nice people that gave them to me. If kids need glasses I think they should wear them no matter what other people say, because it makes you look and be healthier. I am 9 years old and I will always wear my glasses no matter what. Thanks Mrs. Alexis, Mom, Dad, and God! -Eric Jethroe

A Positive Sign In Hard Times

A 40-year (1967 to 2007) study of charitable giving patterns and their relation to recessions and economic slowdowns found that while there was an impact on giving, it wasn’t as dire as conventional wisdom might assume and may indicate increased response to increased need:

  • Giving grew an average of 0.8 percent in years with an economic slowdown.
  • In years with eight or more months of recession, total giving fell an average of only 2.7 percent. Individual giving, which accounted for 80 percent of total giving, declined an average of only 3.9 percent. Foundation giving, which accounted for about 10 percent of total giving, dropped an average of only 0.1 percent. Corporate giving, which accounted for 5 percent of total giving, fell an average of only 1.6 percent.
