Adult Vision Screening Certification

Using guidelines set forth by Prevent Blindness America, PBI uses a combination of the following procedures and tests to conduct adult vision screenings:

  • Registration/Risk Assessment to gather information that will indicate if the subject is suspect or at risk for eye disorders or diseases
  • Near and/or Distance Visual Acuity (clarity)
  • Visual Field Test - this tests the subject’s peripheral field of vision.  It is required for subjects age 40 and over and for those who, on the registration form under the risk assessment questions, have indicated a family history of glaucoma or eye injuries.
  • Tonometer - optional screening
  • Exit Interviews

Through PBI's Vision Tracker, all referrals are followed up on by blind or visually-impaired call center representatives at Bosma Enterprises. Any qualifying referrals who are low-income or without vision coverage can contact PBI's Gift of Vision program to seek assistance.

If you are interested in becoming a certified adult vision screener, you can email ajefferson@pbeye.org or call 317-815-9943 ext. 230. Trainings last 90 minutes.
