On April 30th, 2008, Prevent Blindness America – Illinois Program Area provided free adult vision screenings in the Rotunda at the Capitol in Springfield.
All legislators and key persons in state government agencies were invited with the intention of raising awareness about aging eye diseases. The growing incidence of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration and cataracts has produced a serious public health concern with significant economic impact.
During the month of February, 25 Scouts from Troop 979 collected over 400 pairs of eye glasses! Collection sites included a local bakery, a flower shop and from neighborhood residents. The project was a community service requirement for Scout Kenny D. to receive his Eagle Scout badge, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts. Troop 979 has also refurbished the stage of a church and cleaned a section of a forest. Congratulations and thank you to Kenny and to all the Scouts of Troop 979 for another job well done!
Prevent Blindness America – Illinois Program Area is currently allocating the glasses to its partners.
