State Medicaid Benefits
Maine Medicaid requires prior approval for specified services. The co-payment for service is $.50 to $2/day, depending on payment, up to $20/month. Coverage is limited to dispensing and fitting of eyeglasses, 1 routine eye exam every 2 years and 1 routine eye exam/year for ICF/MR residents. The reimbursement methodology is fee for service. Both the categorically and medically necessary populations are covered.
Healthy Vision Community Awards project
Maine Primary Care Assoc- Through a broad based coalition of representatives, the organization will implement community based educational sessions, lunch and learn sessions for patients and family members on vision screenings, prevention and treatment of diabetic retinopathy. They also enhance their referral and reporting system to flag patients for one on one or group educational sessions. Lions Club members will assist in the development and promotion of annual comprehensive dilated eye exams.
