Leave a Legacy

“PBO understands the importance of the gift of sight and works hard every day to keep that ‘vision’ alive. It should be our goal to help them do that. I would encourage everyone to donate and make a planned gift to PBO.”

- Southwest Ohio executive council member & volunteer Lauren Abel after naming PBO as a beneficiary in her will.

Good vision is often taken for granted, not missed until it is too late or gone. Prevent Blindness Ohio works to help people preserve their precious gift of sight and some visionary people have joined this effort by establishing a planned gift to Prevent Blindness Ohio.

By leaving a charitable gift in your will or estate plan, you ensure that you will leave your community a better place. The impact of your life will be felt and remembered for generations.

You can ask your financial planner or attorney to include either of these legal phrases in your will:

"I give, devise and bequeath to Prevent Blindness Ohio , 1500 West Third Avenue, Suite 200, Columbus, Ohio 43212-2874 for its general purposes, all (or percentage) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, whether real or personal."

or

"I give to Prevent Blindness Ohio , 1500 West Third Avenue, Suite 200, Columbus, Ohio 43212-2874 the sum of $______ to be used for general purpose of Prevent Blindness."

Depending on your age, health, financial circumstances and family situation, you should have some or all of the following:

• A will to dispose of your assets in a thoughtful manner.

• A living trust to reduce probate expenses, facilitate the distribution of assets and take advantage of estate tax-saving opportunities.

• A durable power of attorney to name someone to make decisions if you are incapacitated.

• A living will or other health care directive to express your wishes regarding life-sustaining medical treatments.

• A letter of instruction to tell family members how you would like personal property distributed.

• Death beneficiary designations for retirement assets and life insurance.
