This letter is to thank you for allowing our three Stebbins High School students to participate in your preschool vision screening training. They have assisted the school nurse with preschool and school aged students in our district. Today, they screened our new students registering for kindergarten.
They were also able to use the information from Prevent Blindness Ohio in their Skills USA competition in Cincinnati this month.
You would be happy to know that they receive a gold medal and they will be going to Kansas City to compete in the National Competition in June. Receiving first place on their Vision Screening Showcase project was quite an honor. One of the judges, who is a doctor, commented” “Your presentation was outstanding – it was the best project I have seen all day.”
On behalf of Uswa Shahzad, Rachelle Houser and Kristen Marra, thank you for the excellent training. We appreciate your dedication and commitment to saving sight and to your certified vision screening training.

I want to thank you so much for helping my daughter to get her glasses. It is so nice for her to come home from school happy. She no longer comes home with headaches, grumpy and looking tired. My daughter loves to read and now she is back to her old self again. I want to thank you for everything you have done for us. May
God Bless You.
Thank You,
- Cathy Jackson
I attended a screening last year at Christian Assembly Church and could not even read the top line on the chart. I knew that I had to somehow get in to see a doctor and I talked to my social worker, Cary Ware at St. Marks Health Center. Cary contacted Prevent Blindness Ohio and within a couple of weeks, I was scheduled for an eye exam with Dr. Melissa Vetter. At my appointment, it was found that I had cataracts in both eyes. Within a couple of months, I was scheduled for a surgery with Dr. Robert Derick. I am now able to see clearly again and the flashes of light are gone! I am an artist and can finally see to paint again. Thank you so much!

Joseph was the victim of a drunk-driving accident & as a result his vision was impaired. We had so many medical & legal bills to pay that we couldn’t afford to buy eyeglasses for Joseph. The school nurse told us about Prevent Blindness Ohio & helped us apply for the program. Within 2 weeks, Joseph had his glasses! We were so happy that you could help us. Joseph is a straight-A honor student, and without his glasses he would have been lost. We always contribute to the SOS fund at the BMV, and will continue to do so. Thank you!

Before I got signed up for this program, I was pretty blind. I couldn’t see the words on the overhead or on the chalkboard. I had to strain my eyes to see the words on my paper and in books. After I got my new glasses, it was like opening my eyes again. When I put them on, I started thinking about the song “I can see clearly now the rain is gone”! This program has really helped me a lot. I don’t have to strain my eyes or move up close to the chalkboard to see things. I can also identify faces much better. Thanks a lot for the help you’ve given me. It’s a huge blessing to finally see.

My child was having problems with school work and with playing soccer. Through your program, she was able to receive an eye exam and a pair of glasses and she is now above average in reading and writing and scores at least one goal at her soccer games! Thanks to you, she is very confident now!

I have not had a pair of glasses in ten years and these new glasses, along with my determination for continued sobriety should help me find a job and become a productive member of society.
