We screen for vision problems in both children and adults. Screening is a cost-efficient, very effective way to detect possible vision problems in both children and adults. The following are some of the methods Prevent Blindness uses to screen children and adults to catch vision problems early.
- Photoscreening with the MTI camera
- Chart screening with the Lea Symbol Chart
- Color Vision with a color vision test
- Near and Far vision using the Titmus vision tester
- Near and Far vision using the EPDRS chart
- Visual Field Screening using the Humphreys FTD analyzer
- Risk Factors and Exit Interviews
- Information and Referral
We can provide vision screenings in almost any setting from schools to senior centers to daycares, churches and community centers.

For more than 25 years, our dedicated staff has been providing vision screening training classes for school nurses, teachers, physician assistants, students and volunteers. We train dozens and dozens of people each year all across the state from Jonesborough to Columbia to Bolivar to Chattanooga.

Our training classes may be tailored to your needs and held in your facility. We can accommodate very small groups (5 or more) to very large groups (100s). Give us a call and we'll show you the ropes!

We have a variety of programs to provide follow-up care to needy individuals referred through our screening.
Operation I Care: provides free eye exams and glasses to uninsured children in Metro or Williamson County Schools.
Sight for Students: partnership offers free eye exams and glasses to needy children across the state who have no insurance, are legal residents, and whose parent(s) work.
More information about Sight for Students
Senior Sight Outreach: provides free eye exams and low cost or free glasses to needy adults in Tennessee. We hope to expand this pilot program.
Information and Education: As part of a national health agency, we are a wonderful resource on eye health and safety topics. We offer a catalog full of educational materials, including brochures, videos, posters, vision screening materials and newsletters. We publish several resource manuals that contain information on low vision, resources for adults and children and a variety of other vision problems.
Other Resources: We work with each individual who contacts us to find resources for his or her specific needs.
