Adult Vision Screening Training Opportunity

Did you know…In the coming years, the number of people affected by the eye problems that are the leading causes of blindness will double. By the year 2030, twice as many people will be blind as are today.

Why is vision screening important?

Nearly half of the 50,000 Americans who lose their sight each year did not have to go blind. A screening does not replace an eye doctor’s exam, but it can help identify people who are at risk for eye disease. Finding eye disease early saves sight.

Why vision screening training?

Prevention is an important part of good healthcare. Organizations, service groups, and clubs around the country take Adult Vision Screening training so they can better serve their communities.
The 4-hour training provides:

• Instruction on how to perform near and distance visual acuity screenings;

• Instruction on how to perform a visual field test to help detect changes in peripheral and central vision;

• Instruction on how to gather information and determine if the subject is at risk for eye disorders or diseases and for follow-up correspondence, statistics and record keeping;

• Instruction on how to discuss test results and possible referral to eye care professionals;

• Information on how to set up a screening area;

• Adult Vision Screening Participant Guide published by Prevent Blindness America.

The course stresses the importance of regular eye exams, evaluating the results of screenings, and conducting exit interview and referral processes.

Upon successful completion of the training, participants will be nationally certified by Prevent Blindness America to provide vision screenings for three years.
