Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the major causes of blindness in the United States. The risk of DR is directly related to the degree and duration of hyperglycemia. Several clinical studies have identified which modes of therapy are effective in treating DR, who is at highest risk, and who will benefit the most from intervention. Six of those studies are summarized here.
