Planned Gift
These gifts require special thought and evaluation of your circumstances. They are usually designed with the help of your attorney or financial planner and a representative from Prevent Blindness America.
Formed by Prevent Blindness America in 2000, the Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Society recognizes the thoughtful individuals who included funding for our future programs and services in their estate plans.
We will be pleased to discuss with you and your advisors the many options for planned gifts. Please call us at 1-800-331-2020 or e-mail us for more information.
Securities
Some people make gifts of securities, usually stocks and bonds. Donating stocks and bonds that have increased in value (and that you have owned for more than 12 months) may provide greater benefits than giving cash. This way you can avoid paying capital gains taxes on the increased value.
Securities that have decreased in market value may also be used to make a much-appreciated gift. First the securities should be sold. The capital loss can offset any capital gains you may have had from other investments. The cash from the sale of the stocks or bonds may then be given to Prevent Blindness America.

Life Insurance
Making a gift of an unneeded life insurance policy is often better than donating cash. Naming Prevent Blindness America as owner and beneficiary of a paid-up policy entitles you to a tax deduction equal to the cost basis in the policy. Making a gift of a policy that is not paid up provides you with a tax deduction roughly equal to the policy's cash surrender value.

Real Estate
Gifts of real estate may be better for donors who are concerned about having readily available cash and investments that are easily sold. A gift of real estate provides a charitable deduction of the full fair market value of the gift up to 30% of your adjusted gross income. If the value of your gift is larger, you may take the remaining amount as an income tax deduction for up to five more years.

Charitable Trust
Stocks and bonds hat have increased in value or real estate may be used to fund charitable trusts. Capital gains taxes are avoided and the donor is entitled to an income for life. Additional benefits include a substantial income tax deduction and a reduction in estate tax. Trust arrangements are tailored to each person's situation in consultation with the donor's attorney.

Gift Annuity
A charitable gift annuity is established by transferring cash, securities or other assets to Prevent Blindness America. In exchange, you will receive fixed payments for the rest of your life. The gift annuity offers a high rate of return for senior citizens, and payments are partially tax-free.
