Richmond, VA - Prevent Blindness Virginia, a local nonprofit organization that has been saving the sight of Virginians for 50 years, has announced that they will now be operating as Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic. The announcement was made by Tim Gresham, President and CEO and John Locher, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the organization’s 50th anniversary kick-off event.
This name change is part of their “Expanded Vision Campaign”, which will make the programs of Prevent Blindness available for children and adults throughout Virginia as well as Washington, DC and Maryland. A successful campaign will make certified vision screenings, which are currently in place in about one half of the school systems in Virginia, available in every public school in the newly extended service territory. Adult vision services will also be more readily available in all three localities and include vision screenings, risk assessments and low vision support. The expanded vision campaign was announced by the committee’s honorary chair, former First Lady of Virginia, Mrs. Roxane Gilmore. Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic also provides education on eye health and safety issues.
The organization’s name has changed, but their mission has remained constant for 50 years: to preserve sight and prevent blindness. For more information, or to contribute to the sight-saving fund, contact Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic at 888-790-2020 or visit www.TheEyeSite.org.
