CHICAGO (July 12, 2010) – Prevent Blindness America, the nation’s oldest volunteer eye health and safety organization, is pleased to announce that qualified Chicago-area residents have the opportunity to receive free comprehensive eye exams and prescription glasses on “Eyenstein” the mobile eyecare clinic from Transitions Optical and VSP Vision Care on July 13-14 at select locations.   Local optometrists will be on-hand to provide free comprehensive eye exams and glasses (with Transitions® lenses) for adults and children.

Prevent Blindness America will host the mobile clinic at the following sites:

July 13, 9 – 5 p.m.

Chicago Family Health Center
9119 South Exchange Avenue
Chicago, IL

July 14, 9 – 5 p.m.

Cicero Community Health Clinic
2250 South 49th Avenue
Cicero, IL

“Studies show that 80 percent of a child’s learning is visual – and what many don’t realize – is that one in four children has an undetected vision problem that can interfere with the ability to read and learn,”  said Connie Falvo, director of external affairs, Transitions Optical.  “Hosting this event with VSP Vision Care and Prevent Blindness America truly embodies our mission to help raise awareness worldwide about the need for healthy, quality sight for children and adults.”

“Transitions, Prevent Blindness America and VSP all have a strong commitment to supporting the community and helping people see better,” said Connie Vavricek, Industry Outreach Manager, VSP Vision Care. “By leveraging the strength of our organizations, and in partnership with our 26,000 private practice eye doctors, we are able to extend our reach even further to help more people in need.”

Appointments are strongly recommended.  To make an appointment at the mobile eyecare clinic for a comprehensive eye exam or to receive additional information about the program qualifications or general eye health information, please call Prevent Blindness America at (800) 331-2020.

“We want to thank Transitions Optical and VSP Vision Care for providing those in our community, as well as across the country, with the opportunity to enjoy the wonders of healthy sight,” said Hugh R. Parry, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness America.  “Through their continued and generous support, we are able to work together to ensure a brighter future for all Americans.”
