Nearly 1.3 million Illinois residents ages 40 and older are living with one of four major age-related eye diseases. As Baby Boomers enter retirement age and life expectancies are getting longer, it is imperative to address the ongoing impact eye disease has on this population.
Prevent Blindness America and the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness are pleased to join together to host the first Illinois Vision Symposium – Understanding the Aging Eye. Join us at this event as we raise awareness about the prevalence of age-related vision issues and its implications for public health.
The purpose of this day-long event is to raise awareness about the rising prevalence of vision issues among the aging Illinois population. Speakers will both discuss both the etiology of the diseases as well as current treatments and supportive therapy. An expected outcome will be the formation of an ongoing Illinois Vision Coalition to address aging eye issues through education, vision screening, access to services, policy, research, and consumer support mechanisms.
• Defining the Age-Related Eye Diseases
• Discussing vision as an emerging public health priority
• Describing the impact of Age-Related Eye Disease on Illinois residents
• Introducing an Illinois Vision Coalition.
Anyone with an interest in the impact of Age-Related Eye Disease on Illinois residents is invited to attend. Professionals who work with both middle aged and older adult clients, as well as those working directly in vision loss prevention, are particularly invited.
