Help Your Students Become Star Pupils!  The Star Pupils Eye Health and Safety Curriculum teaches young learners about vision, eye health and safety. This curriculum has been aligned with National Health, National Science and National Physical Education Standards. We hope you'll find this curriculum to be a simple and fun teaching resource!  

K-2 Curriculum

Whether used to supplement an existing health lesson plan or as a standalone classroom activity, the Star Pupils K-2 Eye Health and Safety Program provides interesting and fun facts about vision and encourages students to protect their eyes. The three modules can be used to complete a single, longer classroom session on eye health and safety or divided into three shorter classroom lessons.

Students will learn about:

  • The importance of sight
  • The eye and how we see
  • How to identify objects and situations that can be dangerous to eyes

Grades 3-5 Curriculum

The curriculum for grades 3 through 5 has been separated into five lesson topics. Each topic contains lesson objectives, key points for discussion and a corresponding PowerPoint presentation, and lesson activities. Teachers can use this program to supplement an existing health lesson plan, or as a standalone classroom activity to provide interesting and fun facts about vision and encourage students to protect their eyes.

Students will learn about:

  • Eye anatomy and how the visual system functions.
  • Refractive errors and how vision can be improved or altered using eyeglasses, and other types of lenses.
  • The invention and history of glasses.
  • What challenges people with visual impairment face in a worl without sight.
  • How to protect their vision with strategies to keeping their eyes healthy and safe.

Materials include:

  • Teacher Guide with Lesson Plans including a list of all National Health, Science and Physical Education Standards that the materials cover.
  • PowerPoint presentation for each module.
  • Teacher Resource Guide with background information on all lesson topics, ideas for supplemental activities, and additonal resources.
  • Take Home Materials including Letter to Parents explaining the program, Fun Eye Facts and Eye Safety Poster.
  • Classroom and Homework activity sheets.

Grades 6-8 Curriculum

This program is recommended for grade levels 6-8 and has been aligned with National Health, National Science and National Physical Education Standards.

This curriculum contains three lesson topics: The Eye and How We See; Common Vision Problems; and Take care of Your Eyes – You Only Have Two. Each topic contains lesson objectives, key points for discussion, a corresponding PowerPoint presentation, and lesson activities. Teachers can use the program to supplement an existing health lesson plan, or as a standalone classroom activity to provide interesting and fun facts about vision and encourage students to protect their eyes.
