Our mission: to prevent blindness and preserve sight.

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin is a non-profit volunteer organization, founded in 1958, and affiliated with Prevent Blindness America. Our mission is to prevent blindness and to preserve sight in Wisconsin. We serve the state by promoting healthy vision and eye safety through eye screenings, information and referral services, and public and professional education.

May is UV Ray Awareness Month!
Tanning and Excessive Sun Exposure Can Cause Severe Damage to Eyes

Some people believe that tanning beds are safer than tans from the sun, but research has shown that UV radiation levels of a tanning bed are 100 times that of the natural sun, Tanning beds emit both UVA and UVB rays that cause photokeratitis, or a burn of the cornea.  Read more HERE.

The Economic Impact of Vision Problems

Prevent Blindness America released a new report estimating the costs associated with adult vision problems in the U.S. at $51.4 billion. The Economic Impact of Vision Problems: The Toll of Major Adult Eye Disorders, Visual Impairment, and Blindness on the U.S. Economy analyzes the financial impact vision loss has on the individual, caregivers, the government, and insurance premiums. It provides the costs to the individual and their caregivers, and the impact on the U.S. economy of vision conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataract, diabetic retinopathy, Glaucoma, and more.
