Children's Vision Screening Programs

The world is a feast of colors and shapes to the eyes of a child. Vision is their window to the world and a critical component of the learning process. If a child does not see clearly, the world is a different place. Living and learning can be challenging when a child’s world is out of focus.

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin volunteers provide free vision screenings at day cares, preschools, and elementary schools throughout Wisconsin. We also lend support to public health and school nurses who screen students in Wisconsin schools.

Children’s vision screenings, performed by volunteers of Prevent Blindness Wisconsin, check for refractive errors and muscle imbalance. Because a vision screening does not replace a complete eye examination, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin recommends that all children have a professional eye exam before entering school, any time you or your child’s teacher suspects your child may have an eye problem, and regularly throughout the school years to make sure good vision is maintained.

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin offers educational pamphlets and videotapes on a variety of eye diseases, eye health, and eye safety topics for children and adults. Please contact Prevent Blindness Wisconsin at info@preventblindnesswisconsin.org or (414) 765-0505 or visit our national website www.preventblindness.org for eye-related material.
