Through a collaborative project, Prevent Blindness Ohio and the Ohio Chapter of AAP has developed and will present a medical education program for family practice and pediatric interns and residents and primary care nursing staff/students to educate them on eye health and the importance of vision assessment in children. This medical education program was developed and piloted with family practice and pediatric residency programs in SFY 2005. To date, the Ohio Chapter of AAP has presented 15 medical education programs, serving 331 family practice and pediatric interns and residents and primary care nursing staff/students.
Our goal is to present this program, on a three year rotation, to each of the 30 residency programs in Ohio (8 pediatric and 22 family practice programs). Participants in the program will receive the Preschool Vision Screening Manual for Healthcare Professionals that PBO uses in all our preschool vision screening trainings and an assortment of brochures on eye health and safety.
In SFY 2008, the Ohio Chapter of AAP will present 10 medical education programs.
