The Wild About Eyes kiosk is a smaller (3 feet x 6 feet) four sided display that integrates four main eye health and safety themes of the Wise About Eyes exhibit into its four panels. The Kiosk was built to accommodate smaller public spaces that do not have the capacity to host the larger Wise About Eyes exhibit.
The exhibit’s learning objectives have been aligned with the National Health Education Proficiency, National Science Education Proficiency Standards and National Technology Education Proficiency Standards (which have been adopted by the Ohio Department of Education).
To date, the Wild About Eyes kiosk has been on display at twenty three libraries, serving approximately 194,000 children and their caretakers.
PBO, in cooperation with the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, will travel and display the Wild About Eyes educational kiosk at the following eleven venues in SFY 2008:
Barberton Library,
Bluffton Library,
Carroll County District Library,
Coshocton Public Library,
Columbus Metropolitan Library,
Fairfield County District Library,
Mason Public Library,
Mechanicsburg Public Library,
Twinsburg Library,
Way Public Library, and
Wickliffe Public Library.
PBO organizes a special reading hour at each Wild About Eyes host library. Local and state legislators are invited, as well as the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office, local eye doctors, local Lions Club members, the mayor, school superintendent, etc. Each child who attends the reading hour receives a gift bag that contains a copy of the book Arthur’s Eyes, a pair of safety glasses, literature about vision health and safety for their parent/guardian and information about the Save Our Sight Fund.
