CLEVELAND, OH (Dec. 17, 2013) – Fifth Third Bank and Jerry Kelsheimer, President & CEO, Northeastern Ohio, were recognized at Prevent Blindness Ohio’s 18th Annual People of Vision Award Dinner for their outstanding visionary leadership and philanthropic work. Buckley King LPA and Brent M. Buckley, Managing Partner, hosted the event at Cleveland’s historic venue, Silver Grille on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. Bill Wills from WTAM 1100 emceed the event.

The People of Vision Awardwas established in 1985 by Prevent Blindness Ohio to honor and recognize visionary organizations and their top leadership for the outstanding work they have undertaken to enhance the quality of life within their communities.  The premise of the People of Vision Award is that our community is enriched by such leadership which reflects a “vision of community” to be celebrated and emulated. It’s been recognized as one of Northeast Ohio’s premier charitable events. Over 100 community leaders attended the event and raised more than $53,000 to support the sight-saving programs of Prevent Blindness Ohio.

Half of all blindness is preventable and the number of blind and visually impaired is expected to double by the year 2030 if nothing is done to address the problem. Furthermore, it is estimated that the economic impact of visual disorders and disabilities costs Ohioans approximately $5.4 billion annually.
